02/06/2012 16:37:27 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Hank we have a Pulaski in Tn. also
02/06/2012 16:37:33 William Kunkel from United States: That is an amazing idea
02/06/2012 16:37:45 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: 11 throughout America. Count Casmir never set foot in any of them, Wallicia. :)
02/06/2012 16:38:28 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: ADHD might actually be a Spiritual gift for a Worship Leader
02/06/2012 16:39:13 Ysette Rodriguez from NJ: LOL!!!!
02/06/2012 16:39:18 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: true that!
02/06/2012 16:40:13 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: wow.
02/06/2012 16:40:39 Ysette Rodriguez from NJ: amen
02/06/2012 16:42:28 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: creates excellence
02/06/2012 16:42:33 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: to remove distractions
02/06/2012 16:42:34 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: We're thinking!
02/06/2012 16:42:39 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: makes clear the INTENT to give God 1st priority
02/06/2012 16:42:42 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: When you have a spirit of preparation, it frees you more to focus on God instead of focusing on "what are we doing next?"
02/06/2012 16:42:51 William Kunkel from United States: So that we are not distracted by the "mechanics" of your instrument
02/06/2012 16:42:53 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: God and worship*
02/06/2012 16:42:54 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: we are creating, bringing together disparate parts to facilitate worship
02/06/2012 16:43:11 Michael Myhal from Northeast Ohio: Ditto J. Snead
02/06/2012 16:43:14 Braulio Lemoine from home: To understand their purpose in their calling.
02/06/2012 16:43:16 Annette Rice from Minnesota: Helps minimize mistakes which distract and cause disengagement
02/06/2012 16:43:19 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I tell my group that we can't take people into the presence of God if we haven't been there ourselves. Lifestyle worship and spending time being filled so that we worship out of the overflow is very important.
02/06/2012 16:43:23 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: each week we are telling the story of the community
02/06/2012 16:43:29 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: good point, W. Ray
02/06/2012 16:43:45 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Takes the focus off of us—helps to direct the congregation toward God—absorb lyrics,
02/06/2012 16:44:08 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: ENGAGE.
02/06/2012 16:44:36 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: creates confidence and freedom to sense the Spirit's direction
02/06/2012 16:44:47 Lucien Nahum Isaac from United States: W. Ray "telling the story of the community..." say more about that plz
02/06/2012 16:44:54 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: We can't lead others if we don't know where we are going ourselves.
02/06/2012 16:45:24 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Even thought the gole is invisibility, the congregation still needs an example to follow of course driving their attention to focus on God not us.
02/06/2012 16:45:25 Steve Ewing from Arizona: It like preparing a meal preparation leads to a good meal Feeding Gods people
02/06/2012 16:45:38 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: we are a voice of the faith community. through song and music and dance we tell the story of the time past and time to come
02/06/2012 16:45:41 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: goal sorry
02/06/2012 16:45:42 William Kunkel from United States: /blog/2010/05/24/28-ways-to-make-great-segues-segue-11
02/06/2012 16:46:00 William Kunkel from United States: DOH, I thought it was number 1, I hit #11 instead..
02/06/2012 16:46:04 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: yep, Jacques, right on
02/06/2012 16:46:39 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: yes follow us as we follow Christ.
02/06/2012 16:47:35 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I heard a teacher at one of the big worship confs say ... "We don't go to church to worship. We take our worship to church with us."
02/06/2012 16:47:45 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I loved that.
02/06/2012 16:48:03 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: thats good.
02/06/2012 16:48:06 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: Amen, Hank!
02/06/2012 16:49:22 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: I don't allow music stands on stage during worship.
02/06/2012 16:50:08 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: We project words and chords on a screen on back wall. No stands.
02/06/2012 16:50:44 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I dumped my stand and my paper for an iPad with a Gig-Easy mount onto my mic stand, Jacques.
02/06/2012 16:51:25 William Kunkel from United States: Church lady FTW!
02/06/2012 16:51:39 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: did the ipad work better for you visually?
02/06/2012 16:51:39 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: When you project chord charts, who controls when they change from verse to chorus?
02/06/2012 16:52:13 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: yep, because it sits just below eye-level and above my microp0-hone leve, so I can look out at the congregation too.
02/06/2012 16:52:15 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I give signals and the projectionist knows my signals for sections of the songs.
02/06/2012 16:52:17 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: a dedicated person on a macbook who is a worship team member not on stage that week
02/06/2012 16:52:43 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Actually, I meant no chords, words, charts, etc. Everyone has to come prepared with music/lyrics memorized.
02/06/2012 16:52:52 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Hank that's cool. I have been trying to comit more songs to memory like Jon was suggesting. We have a large repitore.
02/06/2012 16:53:14 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Jacques, I shat try to not covet your musicians. ;)
02/06/2012 16:53:20 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: shaLt
02/06/2012 16:54:11 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Once you take away the safety net it makes for better preparation that's for sure!!
02/06/2012 16:54:17 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I like to challenge my musicians with number charts, head charts, written orchestrations and then just earing songs.
02/06/2012 16:55:11 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Jon, how do you define and measure A, B & C?
02/06/2012 16:57:51 Ysette Rodriguez from NJ: Jon, what if some of your team really is not into the "vision" thing?
02/06/2012 16:57:56 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Follow up question: real quick ...do *you* do that alone ... or under direction of your Pastor .. or get input from musicians ...
02/06/2012 16:58:47 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: If your team is not under a common vision, I feel like there is no operation of "team".
02/06/2012 16:58:57 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Jon I told my musicians practice was personal and rehearsl is relational. I have a sax plyer that does not come to rehersal because he works. I send him mp3s and pdfs of the music and he still comes in Sunday unprepared. He comes in fright reading weaking my whole brass and woodwind section. Should I ask him to sit down? I don't want to lose him.
02/06/2012 16:59:35 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: agreed, Jon
02/06/2012 17:00:33 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: @wallicia - you gotta state expectations and stick to them
02/06/2012 17:01:05 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: The better our relationship with them, the more likely we can win them over to a team vision
02/06/2012 17:01:22 Stella Sicila from Toronto: jesus talks about having a vision in the Bible
02/06/2012 17:01:38 Stella Sicila from Toronto: Jonathan's right! a Common Vision
02/06/2012 17:01:46 William Kunkel from United States: @dan totally agree. All interpersonal problems I've had are a result of an absence of relationship.
02/06/2012 17:03:01 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Ok thx
02/06/2012 17:03:55 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I sometimes think it's becaue I'm a female. lol
02/06/2012 17:05:44 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: thats good Jon
02/06/2012 17:05:50 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: ditto
02/06/2012 17:06:10 William Kunkel from United States: Hallelujah!
02/06/2012 17:06:13 William Kunkel from United States: It is so revelaing
02/06/2012 17:06:26 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: How do you inforce rehearsal in a youth band where the parents are involved in bringing the band members?
02/06/2012 17:06:37 William Kunkel from United States: Ustream, livestream, etc.
02/06/2012 17:06:59 William Kunkel from United States: vocal "blend"
02/06/2012 17:07:08 William Kunkel from United States: pain
02/06/2012 17:07:18 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: can be frightening but so necessary
02/06/2012 17:07:31 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: william are you saying use ustream or live stream to video the service?
02/06/2012 17:07:39 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: Clicks bring so much unity to the band! We love them!
02/06/2012 17:07:42 William Kunkel from United States: yep, even if you just keep it private
02/06/2012 17:07:51 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: cool!
02/06/2012 17:07:55 Steve Ewing from Arizona: no sence in removing the stans and memorizing stuff if you still gonna stand there and look miserable
02/06/2012 17:07:55 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: I need to finally get our team on clicks
02/06/2012 17:07:59 William Kunkel from United States: use a webcam to record it
02/06/2012 17:08:16 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: First time I saw "Jesus Culture" I was most impressed by all the players singing and worshiping ... even those without mics
02/06/2012 17:08:23 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: thats true Steve lol
02/06/2012 17:08:47 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: it was REAL
02/06/2012 17:09:07 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Watch Carl Albrecht!
02/06/2012 17:09:15 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: How do you inforce rehearsal in a youth band where the parents are involved in bringing the band members?
02/06/2012 17:09:19 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: agreed!
02/06/2012 17:09:34 Pat Keady from Brisbane, Australia: Amen. our drummer sings every song, such a good witness for the rest of the tea
02/06/2012 17:10:18 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Iolanda, I have a document that states requirements to be on the team. I review them with parents and kids together.
02/06/2012 17:10:53 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: @Iolanda: 1) bribes & rewards 2) find the best time, 3) you may have to go pick 'em up yourself or piggyback with another event at church
02/06/2012 17:10:54 William Kunkel from United States: Good stuff
02/06/2012 17:11:22 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: Thank you for the advice I've had many meetings a commitment letters yet no success
02/06/2012 17:11:49 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: thank you Ill try that
02/06/2012 17:11:59 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I quit doing commitment letters. It is a heart issue if people don't cooperate.
02/06/2012 17:12:23 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I just meet with people privately and try to be flexible.
02/06/2012 17:12:45 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: it depends if the pain is from the adhesive or if the bandage is intertwined with the wounds healing
02/06/2012 17:13:18 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Keith Green reference ;)
02/06/2012 17:13:36 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Die in the dessert or desert?
02/06/2012 17:13:52 Steve Ewing from Arizona: dessert for me
02/06/2012 17:14:06 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: My preference is definitely face down in a dessert
02/06/2012 17:14:06 William Kunkel from United States: Hard to "pastor" a friend when you are in leadership. But necessary.
02/06/2012 17:14:06 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Iolanda, not a "letter" but a list of requirements. What's expected. They have to be enforced.
02/06/2012 17:14:23 Scott A. Gorman from Morgantown, WV: take ALLLLL the time you need...
02/06/2012 17:14:24 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Jon who?
02/06/2012 17:14:29 Scott A. Gorman from Morgantown, WV: gotta get our money's worth...
02/06/2012 17:14:36 William Kunkel from United States: @scott ha!
02/06/2012 17:14:50 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: yes
02/06/2012 17:15:43 christopher penny from grenada: i am listening intently - not enough time to chat. This is good stuff that I am not privelage to have in these parts.
02/06/2012 17:16:19 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: William is right... Our band is the originating band at my church and they all came because they were my friends. It's hard to sometimes "lead" them and more so "discipline" them because they were friends first. It has been a painful transition but it all goes back to the vision and what needs to be done for the level of excellence that we expect to give God through our worship and the worship of the congregation.
02/06/2012 17:16:46 Travis Greene from Seal Beach, CA: Iolanda, maybe get the parents to hang together some during practice. Probably not realistic, but if at least a couple of them start friendships it might help.
02/06/2012 17:17:06 Robert Williams from Asheville, NC: Having food at rehearsals beforehand helps with fellowship and fun and attendance
02/06/2012 17:17:36 tbanks from South Carolina: hey Robert - I agree!
02/06/2012 17:17:49 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Not the first time I've been fired!
02/06/2012 17:17:58 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: the 8 points were great ... the chat is good, too ... 'sall good
02/06/2012 17:18:08 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: My thoughts are long sometimes... :-/ LoL
02/06/2012 17:18:09 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Do you serve desert at rehearsals?
02/06/2012 17:18:15 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Good idea about the food.
02/06/2012 17:18:30 William Kunkel from United States: Who died and left you boss? Jesus. :D
02/06/2012 17:18:42 William Kunkel from United States: Just kidding
02/06/2012 17:18:43 Travis Greene from Seal Beach, CA: Hard to sing with chocolate breath. :)
02/06/2012 17:19:00 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: I tried the food and snakcs but the kids got too caught up in the food and fellowship rather than the practise
02/06/2012 17:19:04 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: lol chocolate would make me play the keyboard harder. lol
02/06/2012 17:19:10 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Part of the relational aspect is including some time sharing—highs and lows, what's going on, devotion, maybe even chiming in on the worship theme and "what it means to me"
02/06/2012 17:19:28 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: mabye a seperate band fellowship night would get them excited to come to practise
02/06/2012 17:19:29 Stella Sicila from Toronto: Jon, I have a "chill- day" with my band it beuilds friendship too which is important
02/06/2012 17:19:42 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I put our accountability group right before the rehersal. At least those guys can go from one room to the next on time.
02/06/2012 17:19:45 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I recently put our rhythm section in the stuio to record a song I wrote and we wer closer afer the recording.
02/06/2012 17:20:00 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Youth: May sound harsh, but if they choose not to meet requirements they choose not to be on the team. Helps teach responsibility.
02/06/2012 17:20:20 Robert Williams from Asheville, NC: Its great to have a short devotional time, I agree with that. the book Jesus Calling is great, and I am using it this year a lot
02/06/2012 17:20:23 William Kunkel from United States: P and R nice
02/06/2012 17:20:34 ErnieBigbie from Savannah tn: We had our own "Sunday School" class for a while and think we need to do it again.
02/06/2012 17:20:51 Stella Sicila from Toronto: key for dummers (learn your part) practice!
02/06/2012 17:22:09 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: I agree with the dinstinctions of the levels int his slide.
02/06/2012 17:22:11 William Kunkel from United States: Wet blanket
02/06/2012 17:22:17 William Kunkel from United States: ssssssssssssssssssssssssss
02/06/2012 17:22:38 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I have had that happen and it feels like your Pstor is not connected with praise and worship.
02/06/2012 17:22:53 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: Jacques is right. Church is the only place where you'll get chance after chance after chance. You don't show up to your 9-5, you don't get paid. We've recently changed our wording from volunteers to "unpaid staff". Volunteers come and go, staff is for longevity. My Pastor always plays on words that Moses parted the sea with his "staff". The staff you have is just as important as the word coming forth. The connection of the staff and the atmosphere it presents can make or break a moment,
02/06/2012 17:23:00 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Even in a set—I see lots of local WL's do the start and stop technique and don't think about how to get from one piece to the next.
02/06/2012 17:23:31 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: Right now our teams are mostly using run-thru time as their ONLY rehearsal. Not good!
02/06/2012 17:23:47 Iolanda Sicilia from Toronto: same with my team
02/06/2012 17:23:48 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: J.S. & Jacques: yes but ... modelling GRACE is important too. tough balance.
02/06/2012 17:24:07 Stella Sicila from Toronto: yeah in Canada we had to change our terminiolgy from "members" to "particpates", its so funny how the "names" can define so much
02/06/2012 17:24:23 William Kunkel from United States: But grace teaches us to be godly, not enables us to be ungodly
02/06/2012 17:24:29 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: I tell my pastors, if you don't know what to say or what we're going to do next, just walk off and I'll take it from there. We don't want to give the impression that worship isn't important or that we're maiking it up as we go along.
02/06/2012 17:24:40 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: We are blessed with great talent on our team, but i feel sometimes we come unprepared and just resting on our talents. In turn, not giving the practice and therefore the rehearsal too.
02/06/2012 17:24:43 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: Grace is important, but how long do you let the weak link stay in the chain before it breaks?
02/06/2012 17:25:00 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Hank: Yup, I treat the WT as a discipleship program. It's where they LEARN these values. You meet with them and teach them. Some take longer than others to get it.
02/06/2012 17:25:33 Ysette Rodriguez from NJ: W.Ray Williams, Yes I agree, my team is same.
02/06/2012 17:25:37 William Kunkel from United States: As a leader we need to model and mentor. Encourage and others save with fear... :D
02/06/2012 17:25:41 (Private to Presenters) - Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: what if I ask each guy to solo their part to see if they practiced. Would that be bad to do that?
02/06/2012 17:26:24 (Private to Presenters) - Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: If we rely on talent alone the one thing to remember that natural talent with out the anointing does not change lives.
02/06/2012 17:26:30 William Kunkel from United States: Stewards
02/06/2012 17:26:32 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: long enough for Chirst to work on them? long enough to allow Christ's strength to be made perfect in our weakness. I *really* don't have a strong answer here asnd wouldn't presume to tell you how to follow your calling. I just "err" on the side of love in my practices if at all possible.
02/06/2012 17:26:52 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: I would love to move my team to that place of just showing up for rehearsal so we CAN disciple each other
02/06/2012 17:27:10 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: yes
02/06/2012 17:27:11 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I *really* don't want to come accross as critical, y'all. seriously.
02/06/2012 17:27:49 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: Jonathon Snead- I feel that is the job of the music minister. And emphasis on minister. The MM needs to lead with wisdom, sensitivity and anointing because each case in individual.
02/06/2012 17:27:56 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: Hank: You hit it on the head. BALANCE. Extremes are unheatlthy.
02/06/2012 17:28:34 William Kunkel from United States: It's OK to have a weak link, until it becomes the focus of the band (instead of ministering to the Lord/people)
02/06/2012 17:28:46 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: I understand where you're coming from Hank as I do have problems with balance because I do have the heart for people, but it comes to a point do you keep letting someone that is not going to change hinder the congregation and the unity of the team or do you cut the one who feels that the team neeeeeds them and replace them with someone who will lead the people
02/06/2012 17:29:32 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I suspect, in general, to go with the right heart, J.S.
02/06/2012 17:29:32 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: We have 4 bands and they're responsible for their own practice at a diffenent site than where we worship on Sunday (we meet in a school gym on Sundays)
02/06/2012 17:29:41 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: I am the music minister, Ray and yes, it definitely requires all of those things
02/06/2012 17:30:54 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Rotation Jon? I want them ALL! You're def gonna step on my toes now. ;)
02/06/2012 17:31:26 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: LoL- I'm not! I promise!
02/06/2012 17:31:46 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: JS- its tough. Each case is individual. But if this person is a hinderance to himself/team/church, then for the health of all included, he/she may need to sit and work on him/herself/ GOd is a gentleman and works in order; He is not the author of confusion.
02/06/2012 17:32:06 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: We have a rotation of singers that works well. The thing is, all of my musicians are paid and paid right well. I guess I should have mentioned that. That presents a whole different dynamic.
02/06/2012 17:32:33 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: We've divided tunes into 'core' songs (about 30-35) that we use for any congregational pieces. Our 'rule of thumb' is that most of the congregational songs we use in a service need to come from the core list or hymns or 'classics'
02/06/2012 17:32:37 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: JS- paid is a different dynamic too. Wow. Sorry
02/06/2012 17:32:59 (Private to Presenters) - Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: good stuff.
02/06/2012 17:33:12 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: We meet quarterly (pastors & WL's) to review and massage the 'core list'
02/06/2012 17:33:25 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: WE have A and B teams of vocalists too. One of our vocalists is on the band too.
02/06/2012 17:34:01 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: I have a system where a "team member" can be on the team (practice) but not be in a service unless they are prepared. Helps with not taking anyone "off" the team, promotes being prepared.
02/06/2012 17:34:20 (Private to Presenters) - Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: thats good Jacques.
02/06/2012 17:34:29 William Kunkel from United States: @jacques thats good
02/06/2012 17:34:32 (Private to Presenters) - Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: Where's a good place to start creating a current rotation if I don't already have one?
02/06/2012 17:34:47 w. ray williams from baltimore, md: Jacques- we have that system in place with our choir, but have nto tried it on our P&W team. Maybe
02/06/2012 17:34:48 Stella Sicila from Toronto: I have a no practice no prayer no play rule
02/06/2012 17:34:58 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Do you make song rotation choices yourself or with a small committee?
02/06/2012 17:35:07 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Sounds like your system is similar to ours, just different monikers
02/06/2012 17:35:24 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I use that rule with my choir.
02/06/2012 17:36:01 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: Awesome Thanks!
02/06/2012 17:36:30 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Core - Classics - Hymns - Retired - Presentation Pieces
02/06/2012 17:36:43 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: nice, Steve
02/06/2012 17:36:46 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Also - never wanna hear it again
02/06/2012 17:36:51 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: lol
02/06/2012 17:37:50 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: 3 roles ... that's truthiness
02/06/2012 17:38:26 Stella Sicila from Toronto: but Jon would you consider that a committee or you leading leaders?
02/06/2012 17:38:39 Stella Sicila from Toronto: I think there is always ONE leader and then sub-leaders
02/06/2012 17:38:56 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Amen!
02/06/2012 17:39:09 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: fire, not shoot ;)
02/06/2012 17:39:16 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Can you say "Hidden agaendas"?
02/06/2012 17:39:19 William Kunkel from United States: GLory
02/06/2012 17:39:22 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: worship committie sounds controlling.
02/06/2012 17:39:23 Stella Sicila from Toronto: exacty! Father Son and Holy Spirit are not a committee there are ONE
02/06/2012 17:39:26 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: or blantent agendas
02/06/2012 17:39:42 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: good Stella.
02/06/2012 17:39:50 William Kunkel from United States: Amen, the one accountable for what happens
02/06/2012 17:40:06 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Me too I wear multiple hats too many.
02/06/2012 17:40:30 William Kunkel from United States: That's good. I liken it to passing the baton
02/06/2012 17:40:38 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: I have two other worship leaders, one plans his own set, the other plans her set with my guidance
02/06/2012 17:41:03 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: The latest term is Worship Curator (!)
02/06/2012 17:41:13 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I have 2 other worship teams that choose their own songs. I see them also.
02/06/2012 17:41:22 William Kunkel from United States: wow
02/06/2012 17:41:32 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Read it, went to the workshop, not impressed
02/06/2012 17:41:43 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: Yah I have 4 worship leaders and we all have our different song lists...it's getting a bit out of hand
02/06/2012 17:42:07 Tara Banks from South Carolina: We have multiple teams/multiple venues. We let the WL's song select with oversight on overall set design and new song introduction, etc.
02/06/2012 17:43:01 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: that's what I meant with the term committee
02/06/2012 17:43:02 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: oh yah GREAT!
02/06/2012 17:43:04 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: LOL
02/06/2012 17:43:41 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Jacquie I just met with all of the woship leaders from our other satelite church and the other leaders within our church. We each updated our lists and compared songs. Im developing a song sharing system with each team. we also talked about which songs that were not affecitive.
02/06/2012 17:43:53 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: preach it
02/06/2012 17:43:53 Scott A. Gorman from Morgantown, WV: not *killing*...stretching...
02/06/2012 17:44:07 Jacquie Johnson from Edmonton: THanks W
02/06/2012 17:44:28 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: I also can drive our people nuts with "spontanaety"
02/06/2012 17:44:50 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Just ask our projection people...
02/06/2012 17:44:53 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: It sure is helpful. I changed the key to here in your presenc Sunday and the choir freaked out.
02/06/2012 17:45:13 Jacques Lilavois from Los Angeles, CA: There should always be a structure, so when you stray from it (spontaneous) you know right where you are when you come back in. Structure actually helps to be spontaneous.
02/06/2012 17:45:31 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I agree Jacques.
02/06/2012 17:45:31 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Yep, Dan ... I've started giving the EasyWorshp folks a script "V-C-V-C-B etc"
02/06/2012 17:46:21 William Kunkel from United States: helpful to train up new musicians too
02/06/2012 17:46:50 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: When I'm going to change something sometimes I give the band heads up. I ask them to watch me because I'm going to do something differnt in a section of a song or we even practice the change.
02/06/2012 17:46:53 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: The other thing I've learned from watching the IHOP-KC streams on-line is to cue the next section vocally -- singing it out.
02/06/2012 17:47:18 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: I've standardized to creating chord chart in 2-column format in a linear fashion for the default version. One thing I add from classical music notation is that each section has a bold (in reverse) rehearsal number. That way instead of saying go to the chorus (which chorus?) I can say let's start at #4. Is that clear?
02/06/2012 17:47:30 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Can you put up a graphic example of a song sheet with the form on it?
02/06/2012 17:47:47 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Vocal cues have been very freeing. At first my Pastor called me in the office thinking I was trying to solo. I explained that it's communication for the band, chori and the projectionist.
02/06/2012 17:48:16 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: and the congregation ... they can adapt much more quickly with cues
02/06/2012 17:49:15 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: OK I see, thanks! That's in MS Word?
02/06/2012 17:49:49 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Do you generally try to recreate a recorded, official version with your arrangements?
02/06/2012 17:49:57 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: you have a looooot of files there... lol
02/06/2012 17:50:09 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Do you have separate charts with guitar chords?
02/06/2012 17:50:25 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Chord Chart Wizard is another good freebie
02/06/2012 17:51:09 William Kunkel from United States: Sing unto the Lord a new song :)
02/06/2012 17:52:01 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: If Tomlin, or Balachoe or ... then sometimes the band wants to do the arrangement the same. It deos help them to practice with CD or mp3 at home.
02/06/2012 17:52:23 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Doubtful
02/06/2012 17:52:29 Scott A. Gorman from Morgantown, WV: yes, it is available for mac
02/06/2012 17:52:36 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: I stand corected
02/06/2012 17:53:46 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: yes, and GOOD CALL on the Transposr ... used it the first time last week at practice. Worked great.
02/06/2012 17:54:06 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: I'm amazed at how many WL friends I have ask their player to create their own charts! Really cool when they show up in different keys!!!
02/06/2012 17:54:06 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: not that I'm not capable of typos
02/06/2012 17:54:23 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: omg! thats great transposr.com
02/06/2012 17:54:28 Scott A. Gorman from Morgantown, WV: i'm nto ethier

02/06/2012 17:54:42 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Yes PCO!
02/06/2012 17:54:55 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: there's an App for PCO too
02/06/2012 17:55:02 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Some audio editors can transpose well enough to get the job done also
02/06/2012 17:55:14 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: cool.
02/06/2012 17:55:15 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: Audacity
02/06/2012 17:55:51 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: number charts are great for all keys.
02/06/2012 17:56:18 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: you upload it. it weorks in seconds. you redownload the mp3 & viola!
02/06/2012 17:56:26 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: wirks

02/06/2012 17:57:56 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: I looked you up but couldn't find you, Wallicia
02/06/2012 17:58:18 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: really weird.
02/06/2012 17:58:25 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: Vocal and band separation works great! At one time I was trying to do both at the same time but it works wonders!
02/06/2012 17:58:31 Steve Ewing from Arizona: audacity is cool steve, I have gold wave that is pretty good at enhancing audio levels.
02/06/2012 17:58:53 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: I'm on FB
02/06/2012 17:58:58 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: I have choir rehearsal wed night sometimes with the drummer present, then I have band rehearsal Thursday night
02/06/2012 17:59:28 Tasha Kauffman from Lancaster PA: Anyone have any ideas for good ways to translate all these wonderful things to something that would work for a volunteer worship ministry leader? I work 40+ hrs. at my paying job, and this all sounds so great and yet EXHAUSTING. =)
02/06/2012 18:00:01 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Wallicia, you're on YouTube, I see. But I don't see you from FB search
02/06/2012 18:00:03 Wallicia Smith from Nashville Tn.: Steve I will try to find you. You too Jonothan
02/06/2012 18:00:04 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Pick one thing to start and do that
02/06/2012 18:00:11 robert williams from Asheville, NC: get some volunteer help with computer and filing tasks, and even some contacting of musicians.
02/06/2012 18:00:31 William Kunkel from United States: @tasha in the same boat with 4 kids and a wife. Pray for a co-laborer
02/06/2012 18:02:03 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: "No-Noodle"? Will that = "No electric guitarists"?
02/06/2012 18:02:19 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: kinda serious here, actually
02/06/2012 18:02:20 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: I split up tasks across my team, Tasha. One records, one uploads files, lyrics... Different tasks that I don't have to do, I try not to.
02/06/2012 18:02:24 William Kunkel from United States: Give them the dad look/voice
02/06/2012 18:02:32 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: Just give them a chart to read. They'll turn down.
02/06/2012 18:02:49 Steve Ewing from Arizona: just tell the sound guy to mute them
02/06/2012 18:03:19 Steve Witwicki from Barrington, IL: That would be if you can get your sound guy to COME to rehearsal
02/06/2012 18:03:39 Steve Ewing from Arizona: true
02/06/2012 18:04:15 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: I hook the iPad into my monitor and OnSong will let me associate an mp3 with my chord chart. I play the model version through the monitor to teach the song.
02/06/2012 18:04:45 Steve Ewing from Arizona: get the wip
02/06/2012 18:05:19 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Whoa, Steve E., YOU get a whip with the job?

02/06/2012 18:05:37 Lucien Nahum Isaac from United States: Really appreciate our time together today, but I have to leave now :) Will get the rest of the gems from the recording. Keep worshiping in Spirit and in Truth. Thanks.
02/06/2012 18:05:52 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: Are you recommending informal "performance reviews"?
02/06/2012 18:05:57 William Kunkel from United States: Make sure you have 'permission' from leadership to ddress problem areas.
02/06/2012 18:06:52 Dan Buchanan from New Jersey: This is an area of growth needed in me, for sure
02/06/2012 18:08:14 Hank Hanks from Pulaski, VA, USA: good idea!
02/06/2012 18:08:20 Jonathan Snead from Chesapeake, VA: My interview process is also changing... I'd like to connect to see what your doing also with your review process
