Worship Expressions

Worship Expressions

Over the next year (Fall 2012 through Summer 2013), I'm going to journey with my church through the Biblical expressions and postures in worship. In other words, why do we stand? Why do we sing? Why do some people raise their hands?

Most Sundays, I'll be distilling the teachings down to 2 - 3 minute nuggets to include in worship. To prepare, I'll be writing about each of these topics in the blog. And more than likely, I'll share some experiences as well - what worked, what resonated, what fizzled.

Since these writings will be spread out over the course of a year, this page will be a home base for all those posts and articles.

I would love to hear your thoughts on these postures and expressions, as well as any resources you know about that could take us further into this. You can certainly can email me, but if you want to have more of a dialogue, join the Facebook discussion I've create around this topic (still in the works). If your church would like to journey along with us, that'd be great. I'll try to keep ahead for your sake (and mine).

As of right now, here is the plan I'm hoping to follow over the next several months. I'll be fleshing each month out in more detail as it arrives. And I may make some changes as I go along. But I'll show those here.

Here's the way I've chosen to categorize the expressions and postures:

Our Posture:
Standing
Bowing/Kneeling/Prostrate
Dancing

Our Hands:
Clapping
Raising Hands
Playing instruments

Our Voices:
Singing
Shouting
Speaking
Silence

And here's the month-by-month breakdown of each expression or posture:
