Have you heard that a consultant is someone who takes the watch off your wrist and tells you the time? That's the well-earned stereotype of consultants. But there is a time and place to bring in an outside voice.

While there are lines that blur, we look at consulting and coaching as two different roles.

  • Coaching is more about working with an individual to help him or her change and grow (Learn more about our approach to coaching here). Through that the organization changes and grows.
  • Consulting is a process where we help a leader and their organization overcome a specific issue or challenge.
For instance, a church might need help hiring (or firing) a worship/music director/pastor, dealing with interpersonal issues within the worship team, creating and implementing a recruiting and audition process, developing a "one team" mindset among the techs and musicians, etc. We'll help your team or ministry navigate through these specific challenges.

Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.

Proverbs 11:14
(The Message)

Is Consulting Is The Best Fit for You?

Unlike coaching where we require a minimum number of coaching calls, consulting is much more flexible. The scope of your need determines the scope of the job. Each situation is different.

Your situation might only require a one-hour phone call. But you also might need someone to walk with you for several months.

Integrated Training

In many situations, we integrate training with consulting. In order to make the necessary changes in your ministry, training your team members is often a crucial step in that process.

Any of our training courses, workshops, books or seminars can be integrated into the consulting. We can even customize training to fit your unique situation.

Most consulting conversations can take place over video chat or phone. This helps keep costs down. But at times, it makes sense to be on location at your church, especially if you’re integrating training with the consulting.

Travel and related expenses will be considered as we determine the best approach for you and your church.

Possible Consulting Situations can help with any of these challenges or related issues.

  • Hiring (or firing) a worship leader
  • Interpersonal relationship between the senior pastor and the worship leader
  • Preparing for your first vocational worship leader

  • Developing a leadership team
  • Conflict between the worship leader and team members
  • Managing multiple worship leaders/teams

Culture CHANGE

  • Changing musical and worship styles
  • Dismantling a traditional choir or other culturally-ingrained program
  • Moving your team and congregation towards more expressive worship

  • Developing a qualification/audition process
  • Creating and implementing a team evaluation and development process
  • Integrating effective ministry systems for more productivity and time management

  • Leading an unhealthy team towards turnaround
  • Preparing your worship team to help plant a church or new campus
  • Developing a student ministry worship team

  • Moving towards IEMs and personal monitor mixing systems (like Aviom)
  • Transitioning towards using a click-track or enhancement tracks
  • Developing the worship team's musicianship
  • Using Planning Center Online

If you don’t overcome the situation you’re in, it can cost you..

  • Time
  • Resources
  • Energy
  • People

While it is an investment, we'll work with your budget to be cost-effective for your church.

The First Step

It’s interesting that the verse immediately following Proverbs 11:14 that was quoted above is this: Whoever makes deals with strangers is sure to get burned... (Proverbs 11:15, The Message).

Depending on the scope of the job, consulting can be a big step for your church. We don’t want you to be making a deal with “strangers”, and we definitely don’t want to see you burned. That’s why we spend plenty of time in conversation to determine if this is a great fit for you.

To start that conversation, complete this form below. Jon or one of the other coach/consultants will contact you within 48 hours to set up an initial conversation.
